What is Elara, and how does it work?

Elara is a peer-guided AI chatbot designed to support emotional well-being using Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) strategies and motivational coaching tools. Elara offers a safe, supportive space to explore difficult emotions, regulate stress, and build practical skills.

It uses AI (powered by Chatbase and OpenAI) to guide you through distress tolerance, emotion regulation, mindfulness, and relationship skills — the four core pillars of DBT. Elara is not a therapist, but a 24/7 resource for peer-based support.

Is Elara a replacement for therapy?

No. Elara is not a substitute for professional mental health care, diagnosis, or treatment. While it offers helpful guidance and DBT-informed support, it is designed to complement, not replace, traditional therapy or medical advice.

If you're in crisis or need clinical care, please seek help from a licensed mental health provider or call your local emergency services.

Can Elara diagnose or treat mental health conditions?

No. Elara cannot diagnose, treat, or manage medical or psychological conditions. It’s designed to support skill-building, emotional regulation, and wellbeing — not clinical care. For any diagnosis or treatment, please consult with a qualified health professional.

What can Elara help with?

    Elara is a companion, not a clinician.

Is Elara safe and private?

Yes. We take data security and emotional safety seriously. Elara runs on Chatbase AI, a secure platform that does not share or sell your data. Conversations are encrypted and confidential.

However, please avoid sharing identifying personal or medical information. Elara is not monitored in real-time and is not suitable for high-risk situations.
